It took Emmrich a moment to react, to return the gesture, to even acknowledge that he had been touched. A moment, and then the relief that flooded in return, his shoulders slumping hard against Rook’s body as he buried his face into the crook of his shoulder. The tears followed suit, his weeping no longer so poorly concealed as the pressure cracked and caved against his spine. And for a moment, he forgot all his elegance and refinement, all his poise and posterity. For a moment, crumpled against the shaking form of his lover, Emmrich Volkarin was simply human.
Slowly, those weak and ragged arms raised to reach around Rook, to cradle him tight against his chest in return, pressing him tighter against his body. He wasted no time, crawling into Emmrich’s lap as he pressed his fingers through his peppery hair, halfheartedly pushed back and slick with sweat, as messy as it ever got. Cradled against one another’s body, there was only comfort to be found in the space between.
