“You have to pick a heart.” Steve’s voice emerges raspier than intended.
Everything in him clenches as Eddie reaches into the box. He doesn’t dig around, just plucks a satin heart from the top.
“Not that one,” Steve says.
Eddie squints. “What are you up to, you little incubus? There’s a correct heart?”
“You’ll know it when you see it.”
Steve’s plan for his anniversary with Eddie goes exactly as planned—and then maybe a little off the rails. As a treat.
