And then Vincent locked eyes with him - Rody vaguely remembered that they had been looking at each other like that earlier in the evening too - and he stopped talking, one eyebrow raised as if he was waiting for an answer to something. Rody just opened his mouth and closed it again, brain too foggy to really grasp what was happening and what he should be doing right now.
Vincent’s eyes crinkled at the corners like they had so often this evening. He was chuckling, probably making fun of Rody, but that didn’t matter, because suddenly he was leaning into his space, and the hand that had been holding his glass was hovering near Rody’s face now, slender fingers brushing against his temple. A strand of hair was tucked behind his ear, and he could swear he saw Vincent’s eyes flicker down for a second, but maybe his foggy brain was just making that up.
"You’re really handsome, Rody."

After burning the bistro, Rody ran away to escape the police and boarded the first plane to the U.S., not knowing that Vincent was rescued and still alive. Rody had a violent breakdown in his new workplace after being forced to eat meat and was labeled as a danger to society. Thus, he was sentenced to a mental hospital.
Sadly, because he had no money and no U.S. citizenship, the court decided to deport him back to France. Desperate to not return to his past and horrors, Rody accepted the offer to become a patient in Mount Massive Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
It might be one of his greatest mistakes.
