Summary

His unlikely salvation is a group of raiders: drow from Menzoberranzan with little use for maimed men or mages. Resigned to his grim fate, he's surprised to find himself spared once more on his arrival to the Underdark— this time by Minthara, a woman as clever as she is cruel, as she seeks a servant for her own mysterious ends in the City of Spiders and beyond.
An alternate universe where Gale is captured post-tadpoling, Minthara isn't a leader in the Absolute's army, but the plot of the game is still (mostly) in tact.

Phantom of the Opera was my very first fandom, and it's still a huge special interest of mine. This fic will weave (heh) a story borrowing elements from multiple adaptations, including but not limited to the original novel by Gaston Leroux, the 1986 stage musical, and the 1990 TV special. All characters will retain their original fantasy races, but magic does not exist besides talking cats.

Zero, one, then one again, followed by two, then three – Gale counted the steps the swirls covered before ending at a larger puddle. The sequence that was the logic of the spiral ended unceremoniously at eight.
How interesting, if rather pretentious with obvious planted and intended portentousness. Shar truly was a trickster goddess to create such a mathematical pattern of Shadowheart’s blood out of some sort of spite, despite her nihilistic intent to create nothing of everything.

Then a third, and up till now completely unthinkable, thing occurred. The portal behind Gale yawned open once more. Underneath the dissonant crackling of the portal’s magic, Gale could hear the distinct sound of a voice yelling and cursing in a foreign language. And before the wizard could register what in all nine hells was happening, a young woman was spat out of the portal like a wad of Chessentan chewing tobacco. She crashed into Gale’s chest, exactly like he had crashed into her the day before. Unlike Gale though, Brix did not immediately brush herself off and greet him with a practiced smile.
Instead, she resumed her cursing. At least, that’s what Gale assumed it was. He couldn’t glean any singular word from her outburst, except one terribly rude four-letter word, which was now sprinkled liberally into every other sentence.
“You!” she finally shouted and pointed an accusatory finger at Gale. “What the fuck did you do?!”
