Summary
To ascend is to find oneself untethered to this world and its attachments.
Why then do the Iterators, beings designed to seek means of ascendance for all creatures, find themselves tethered in both body and mind?Long after the Ancients are gone, the Iterators are left with only each other and their lonely, desolate cans. With one small change, their Cycles will spiral off into a new future where they may yet be freed from the burdens their creators left them with. Some will abandon their purpose, abandon the ideas that formed them, and seek a new purpose in the world left to them. While others will seek out companionship, family, and the freedom that has long be denied to them.

After a weird portal that befuddled Blackrock scientists and deities alike appeared in a (now closed off) remote area in a cave opening, Sword has been sent to investigate to prove himself worthy of love from the deities. As much as the words pain him, it's the truth.
He manages to meet The Watcher, a small black slugcat who appears to have opened the portal. Sword nicknamed it Star, and they continued on.
Though as he meets new friends (and foes), things get stranger and out of world-like. Perhaps even out of the Inpherno.

It was snowing, much more than it had been a moment ago, having been so backed up into your mind that you had hardly even noticed the rapidly dropping temperatures. despite the fact your cloak has a temperature regulation craft sewn into it, you still shiver, seems like the craft has a limit to how much it could take, this snowy landscape was already pushing that limit, and it seems like it was only going to grow colder and colder by the second.

You should maybe try and find some sort of shelter to take cover in for the time being, if there even was somewhere around here you could take cover in, you're not completely sure there is anything, but there had to hopefully be something.
