Summary
Following a failed pickpocket attempt, a fall from some stage rafters, and an audition that she never imagined in her wildest dreams, Mare Barrow, street felon by day and wistful ballerina by night, one day finds herself as a dancer for Manhattan's prestigious Calore Dance Academy, owned by the filthy-rich Calore clan. More than that, her partner is Maven Calore, one of the Calore brothers himself. And the pickpocket attempt, of course, was on Maven's older brother and the heir to the Academy, Tiberias "Cal" Calore. Naturally, he orchestrated the whole incident.
A paradigm rags-to-riches success story unfolds, and as the seventeen-year-old climbs up the levels of social class, she dances a dangerous game of love and betrayal when lies are told and secrets are revealed. The gang Mare belongs to, the Scarlet Street Fighters, and the Calore clan are brutal enemies, and the girl, simple as the blood in her veins, is caught right in the crossfire of their bloody war. Mare soon discovers that the Calore family not only has a passion for ballet dancing, but an obsession for power and money. It seems that the Calores control everything, including her own life. “Hi.” He stretched his fingers on the desk, and I couldn’t tell if he was nervous or if he was thinking about something that required his hands to move. There were multiple rings on his hands, all of them some shade of silver. I looked up to avoid staring at them.
Multiple necklaces circled his neck, one with a blue gemstone that accentuated his eyes of the same shade. His earrings were in shades of silver as well, a star and two rings on his earlobe. His longish black hair contoured his face in a way that gave him the air of a rebel prince. Stop staring.-

Summary
I always lock my door before leaving for Iris' because this would be hard to example. Unlike Iris, I can get dressed for the day straight away as no one helps me get ready. Good thing too because she did a number on me with marks all down my neck and chest. I don’t bother covering them up much, letting them show along with my brand. It will make Maven livid and always receives good reaction from Iris later on.

Summary

There's something strange about the boys who just moved in next door, but Mare just can't quite put her finger on what it is exactly. They're just weird, and she's pretty sure that the house they live in is haunted. There's a very good chance that they could be night creatures and as a monster hunter (in training) it's Mare's job to make sure that any and all night creatures who live within the Stilts don't pose a threat to anyone. Of course there's only one way to figure that out. It has nothing to do with the fact that one of the potential vampire's has a nice face. It doesn't.
All Cal wants to do is live in one place for longer than two years. That's a little difficult when you've got a huntress investigating you and your family while your brother and his boyfriend do nothing but create messes for you to clean up.
And Maven and Thomas? They're just here for the fun and to endure watching two pining fools dancing around each other.
