Chapter Text

Nick

“Well?”

I look up from my computer to see my mum stuff a water bottle into her purse.

“Well, what?” I ask her.

“Do you want me to make the appointment for you?”

“Oh. Right. Um, yeah. Thanks.”

“Alright, then. I’ll make the call tomorrow.” Then she grabs her keys. “I’ll be back late. Behave yourself while I’m gone.”

“No promises,” I reply with a cheeky grin.

Mum just smiles back and shakes her head. As she heads to the door, I go back to my computer. Lucky, I had been quick enough to minimize my screen when mum had walked in. I was supposed to be going through a checklist of things I needed for uni, but my mind had wandered onto other things.

Though I had been fairly open and honest with my mum ever since coming out as bi, I was not comfortable sharing my sex questions with her. I had taken to the internet but wasn’t getting any answers. Everything I looked up just led to a dead end.

I still have concerns about making the most of the time Charlie and I have before I go away to university. In his own way, he is becoming more supportive of me going to Leeds, even though it is nearly four and a half hours away. I knew I wanted to stay together while I was away, and Charlie wanted the same.

Charlie and I love and trust one another. So far, we are satisfied with the things we have been doing, but lately I’ve begun to feel like maybe there could be more. It was all brand new for both of us, and there was a lot to explore. If only I knew where to begin.

My phone dings. I pick it up from the coffee table to see a message from Charlie.

Are you free?

Yeah. Do you want to come over?

Sure. See you soon!

Can’t wait 😉

I slip my phone into my pocket and close my laptop. We weren’t having sex every time that we were together, but it had been a while since the last time we had. So, I started preparing for Charlie to come over like it was a proper mission. I head upstairs to the bathroom. Teeth brushed. Deodorant applied. A spritz of cologne. Then I go to my bedroom. I pick up the few things that are on the floor so that there is nothing to trip over (we had learned that lesson the hard way). My bed is already neatly made up.

I go back downstairs just in time to hear a knock on the door. It got the attention of Ellie and Henry. I distract them by tossing a ball down the hallway, which they both chase. Then I open the door to see Charlie grinning at me.

“Hi,” he says.

“Hi,” I reply.

Charlie comes in and I shut the door behind him. He unzips his jacket and drapes it on the staircase railing.

“Is your mum home?” Charlie asks.

“No,” I reply. “Book club or something.”

He turns quickly to face me. “So, we’re alone?”

I give him a sly smile. “Oh, yeah. We’re alone.”

“Good.”

Charlie wraps his arms around my neck and stands on his tiptoes to kiss me. My hands go to his hips, pulling him in closer. Then Charlie’s lips find that sweet spot on my neck.

“No hickies,” I warn.

“You just smell so good,” Charlie says, his breath tickling my skin.

I sigh loudly. “Do you know what you’re doing to me?”

“I’m getting a pretty good idea. Should we go upstairs?”

“Hang on a minute,” I say. “Before we do that…I just…”

Charlie takes a step back to try and read my face. “Everything OK?”

I run my fingers through my hair nervously. “I, um…I need to talk to you about something.”
