"Buenos días Mindy!" María said happily, opening Mindy's bedroom door.
"Wha-" Mindy said, just waking up.
"Do you know what day it is?"
"Uh, Saturday?"
"Well, yes, but.. it's your birthday! Happy birthday mama."
"Ohhh yeah! Thanks mom!" Mindy got up from the bed and hugged her mom.
"And you know what that means! Today I'll let you get that haircut you've always wanted, I'll let your friends come over too!"
"Yay!!" Mindy ran past María and out the door. "I'll call them!" She got out her phone and rang up each of her friends Sydney, Jet, Sean, Stella, Lillian, and Mitchell.
"Hi! My moms letting you come over for my birthday today!" She said to each of them individually. Turns out they're all coming, great!
Mindy waited, until she heard the doorbell ring. It was her friends! Well, most of them. Sean was nowhere to be seen.
"Heyy guys! Where's Sean?" Mindy inquired, opening the door.
"I don't know, he should be here by now."
"Come in while we wait for him!" The five friends then followed her inside the house.
They walked over to the couch, and just as they were about to sit they heard the door fly open.
"Sean! What kept you?" Sydney said.
"Are you okay?" Lillian asked.
"I *pant* was getting chased by Sunspot *pant* holding a hammer.."
"What." Stella.
"Ohh Sunspot!" Jet sighed.
"Mindy, bring your friends over here!" María shouted from across the room.
"Okay!" They all ran towards the bathroom.
Before sitting down, Mindy took off her hat and unbraided her hair.
"Alright Mindy, what would you like?" María said as she put a barber cape on her.
"I want a cool haircut-" Mindy pulled up a photo on her phone showing a person with a half shaved head, with a lightning bolt drawn into the shaved side. "Like this!"
"Okay, I can do that!" María grabbed the razor that was sitting on the counter. She turned it on, and brought it closer to Mindy's head.
"I can't look!" Sean said, covering his eyes.
"Don't worry Seanzo, it's just hair!" Jet reassured.
"Yeah! And if it looks weird she can shave it all off or something." Mindy added.
The thought of bald Mindy crossing Sean's mind did not help.
After some buzzing, Mindy looked in the mirror. "Wow! Now, the lightning bolt thingy!"
María added some finishing touches to the design. "You look really good!"
"Now, do you want it dyed? If so, what color?"
"Yeah, blue!"
María went over to the cabinets and picked up a bottle of blue hair dye and bleach.
"No, I don't want it bleached."
"Are you sure mama? It'll be dark."
"I want it to be dark!"
"Alright then." María soon divided her hair into different sections, and started applying the dye.
"Ooh, it's cold!"
"It's supposed to be." María giggled.
"Mindy, have you ever had your hair dyed before?" Sydney asked.
"No, this is my first time! I wanted to get it dyed when I was little but mom didn't let me."
"Well you're getting it dyed now, are you excited?"
"Yes!"
After María was finished applying the dye, and Mindy was finished chatting with her friends, she let it sit for a bit to let the color sink in.
"Time to rinse!"
María bent Mindy's head back into the sink. "Ow!"
"It's okay mama."
The cold water felt refreshing, and after it was done she felt like a new person.
Mindy blow dried her hair herself, flipping her hair around, letting it glisten in the light.
She then walked into the other room, where her friends went to wait for her.
"You look so cool Mindy!" Sydney exclaimed.
"It's sooo cute!" Lillian added.
"Thanks guys!"
"Good luck growing that out." Stella remarked.
"Oh, nice." Mitchell looked up from his book. "Wait, why'd you change your hair, it was fine before?"
"My mom used to be a punk when she was a teenager, she dyed her hair and it looked really cool! I wanted to do the same with my hair, considering that I am a teenager now. I've got photos if you wanna see!"
"Ooo, show us!!"
Mindy walked into her mom's room and came out with a large photo album. She set it on the table and opened to one of the pages.
"Wow, look at those liberty spikes! I'd like to do my hair like that." Stella said.
"See? She's sooo cool." Mindy responded.
"That's some bright green." Sean added.
After the friends looked at the pictures for a while, Mindy heard her mom's footsteps and rushed to put the album back where she found it.
"Mindy! The rest of you! I've got a surprise!"
Mindy popped her head up.
