The modeling life is glamorous on the surface but brutal behind closed doors: coercion, harassment, and a relentless pressure to perform a new identity he never asked for.
Otabek remains a steady, compassionate presence, trying to comfort Yuri and remind him of who he is. Viktor is torn guilty for past choices that distanced him from Yuri and jealous of the intimacy Yuri finds elsewhere while Yakov and Lilia fight bureaucratically and emotionally to reclaim the young man they trained and loved.

It felt like some distant dream, the memory of staring at the sharp spike of his own bone slicing through his thigh, his knee bent in a direction it wasn’t supposed to go; of gushes of crimson blood pooling underneath him; of laying on his back on the ice, the shock of its cold surface the only thing keeping him conscious; of listening to Mila and 20,000 spectators scream in horror together; of staring up at the ceiling of the rink, wondering if it would be the last thing he saw.
Of feeling strangely at peace with the fact that it might be.
Three months later, though, he wished he could go back to that moment. Wished he could tell the medical personnel to slow down, come to him just a little bit later, let him bleed just a little bit more.
Dying on the ice would have been better than rotting away without it.

It takes a moment for the sight to register as real— not just a strange conjuring of his caffeine-addled, sleep-deprived brain. Because Otabek has been running on fumes for the past few weeks, between part-time coaching, part-time teaching, full-time composing, and trying to find the time to feed both himself and the cat; a Yuri apparition on his doorstep seems like something his beleaguered mind would come up with, in the early hours once he’s finally found sleep.
But then the sodden hoodie lifts, and Yuri is staring him full in the face, pale and hollow-cheeked.

Obviously, until a certain Yuri Plisetsky enters his life, and all the past comes flooding back to haunt him. Fortunately, he's pretty distracted most of the time.

There are references to their songs throughout this fic.Also, setting the scene in a fictionalized Moscow and Almaty, any connection to current events is purely fictional, no social commentary whatsoever. Nope, not here.

The sound of the crowd cheering, the announcer calling out his name to thousands and the biting cold of the ice served as a reminder that he chose the right thing to chase. It was all he lived for; the Russian fairy, Ice Tiger of Russia. He went out to prove himself. He was better than everyone else, the one to set a world record, the one who beat his coach and competitors years older than him. He was the best and nothing would tear him down. Not now.
